DALLAS, July 3, 2018 -- AED123 was established today to make it easy and cost effective for businesses to make Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) available to save lives. AED123's mission is to build a world where there are more AEDs available and more people prepared to use them.
Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is the number one cause of out-of-hospital death in the Western world, and up to 75% of people who experience Sudden Cardiac Arrest can be saved if an AED is used to administer a shock to their chest within 3 minutes of their collapse. Business owners are more likely to lose an employee, tenant, or customer to Sudden Cardiac Arrest at their place of business than than they are to any other cause, however most businesses do not have AEDs. AED123 plans to change that.
Bob Wehmeyer suffered Sudden Cardiac Arrest in June of 2017 at the River Bar at The Cloister at Sea Island. The Cloister had an AED on site, and within 2 minutes, the AED was attached to his chest to shock his heart back into a normal rhythm. That AED saved his life. Bob is part of a fortunate few who have experienced SCA at a venue that had invested in both having an AED and having employees prepared to use it. The Wehmeyer family is grateful to the Broadmoor - Sea Island Company for their preparedness. AED123 aims to ensure that more businesses, of all types and sizes, are prepared to save lives.
